Abstract
During the last decade, education in Colombia has gone through a series of continuous transformations whose ultimate purpose has been the search for academic quality and excellence. Such transformations ha ve embraced the design, implementation, and evaluation of curricular innovations that ha ve generated new expectations regarding pedagogical practices. This book presents the work of a group of teachers in the English program of the School of Education at the Universidad Externado de Colombia who embarked u pon a new pedagogical innovation in the English as a Foreign Language (EFL) realm. The text also summarizes the research, which was undertaken regarding this project and that was sponsored by the University and COLCIENCIAS. More specifically we will refer to the implementation of didactic units centered on the application of critical thinking-related tasks and their incidence in language competence. The main goal of this book is to share insights that may serve to guide educators in Colombia towards the construction of improved learning environments.
