Publication Role of lam and CD 14 in tuberculosis(Universidad de Antioquia, 2000-07) Garcia, Luis Fernando; Zabaleta, Jovany; Giraldo, Mabel C.; París, Sara C.; Rojas, Mauricio; Henao, Marcela l.; Barrera, Luis F.; Puzo, GermainThe soluble forms of HLA class 1 molecules and CD14 , one of the co-receptors for microbial glycolipids on the macrophage membrane, modulate cellular immune responses. There is evidence that soluble forms of these two molecules are increased in sera from TB patients but the significance of such increments is not known . We measured , by Elisa , the serum levels of sCD14 and sHLA-1 in 23 adult patients with pulmonary TB , 22 healthy tuberculin positive individuals and 4 healthy tuberculin negative controls . Both proteins were increased in sera of TB patients compared to healthy controls (p<0 .006) . However, sCD14 levels significantly decreased during anti-TB treatment (p=0 .0004) , while sHLA-1 levels remained increased .
